A Comparative Study of SSA-BPNN, SSA-ENN, and SSA-SVR Models for Predicting the Thickness of an Excavation Damaged Zone around the Roadway in Rock

Due to the disturbance effect of excavation, original stress is redistributed, resulting in an excavation damaged zone around roadway. It significant predict thickness because it directly affects stability roadways. This study used a sparrow search algorithm improve backpropagation neural network, and Elman network support vector regression models zone. Firstly, 209 cases with four indicators were collected from 34 mines. Then, was optimize parameters models. According optimal parameters, these three predictive established based on training set (80% data). Finally, test (20% data) verify reliability each model. The mean absolute error, coefficient determination, Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient, percentage Theil’s U value, root-mean-square sum squares error evaluate performance. results showed that improved performance traditional models, algorithm–backpropagation model had best comprehensive prediction 0.1246, 0.9277, −1.2331, 8.4127%, 0.0084, 0.1636, 1.1241, respectively. proposed could provide reliable reference for zone, helpful risk management roadway stability.
